The historic hotel the Austrian Hospice, in the old city of Jerusalem is hosting works by artist Ethan Dor-Shav
"Who by Water, Who by Fire" curated by Vera Pilpoul
This exhibition comprises two monumental works, in soft pastel on paper. Exploring two cataclysmic biblical narratives that employ gestures of shape and color, in paintings that consist entirely of movement and energy, Ethan Dor-Shav takes us to the cosmic boundaries of the human experience. Elijah ascends to Heaven to the boundary of the metaphysical world of light, in a fiery storm surrounded by fiery horses. In a contrasting cosmic inversion, in a great storm Jonah plummets to the depths of the sea, to the brink of the shadowy Underworld. Jonah is swallowed by the ancient sea monster, and their symbiosis threatens Jonah’s very consciousness as a human. Dor-Shav’s previous solo exhibition, “Six Wings,” was shown at the Tel Aviv Artists’ House in October 2016.
