Yirmi Kimchi is a multidisciplinary artist whose primary form is handicrafting in wood. After learning and experimenting with various paint mediums, Kimchi found his passion in aquarelles, and in this exhibition, he shows still lifes and landscapes.
Kimchi is thoughtful about his models, staging the desired interactions between the different objects. He pays close attention to light and shadow, as well as to the color reflections that create attachment and harmony between the objects. The texture of a unique fruit, the position a doll is placed in, or a curious reflection off a glass bottle can all evoke emotion worthy of being rendered.
His landscape paintings are inspired by his travels around Israel and abroad. In his wanderings, he is on the hunt for interesting architectural details and charming natural beauty, and always, the dramatic game of light and shadow. This contrast is the central theme in Kimchi’s work; it is what excites him and motivates him to try and communicate what he describes as his own form of expressive realism.
