The beginning of the Jerusalem Biennale.
The Jerusalem Biennale took place for the 3rd time in 2017. The Biennale hosted 30 exhibitions and projects from all around the world: NYC, LA and Dallas; London, Paris, Saint Petersburg and Budapest; Sydney, New Delhi and Singapore; and of course, Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. Over 230 artists participated, with over 100 of those artists from abroad.
The theme for the Jerusalem Biennale 2019 is LeShem Shamayim (For Heaven’s Sake!). The phrase ‘for the sake of heaven’ is most famously associated with the text above. It puts an emphasis on the motivation of an act rather than on the act itself, and connects it with, of all things, arguments and disagreements.
Nearly 200 participating artists, half of them from outside Israel and among them leading artists like Sigalit Landau, Motti Mizrachi, Pablo Lobato, Andi Arnovitz and Maya Zack, participated in Biennale 2015.
The exhibition “In The East” was initiated and produced by The Jerusalem Biennale, devoted to researching and promoting the interfaces between contemporary art and the Jewish world of content. The Fourth edition of The Jerusalem Biennale is set to open on October 10, 2019.
